We have adopted three urban-villages at Gurgaon via our NGO called Sarvprayag.

Our vision is to spread the gift of learning, power of knowledge and the confidence to dream with the underprivileged sections of our society and, little by little, decrease the gaps of disparity in our community. To fulfill this vision, we work with children and their parents to ensure education, health, overall development and gratitude to be imbibed in our students – which will help them in becoming good citizens. We believe it is the responsibility of each individual for the environment they live in and hence our objective is to involve all sections of our community to make the change we wish to see in our society.

Our students have never had any formal education and are now at an age at which they cannot be accepted in schools presently because of being off-tracked and well over the age of their peers. With our solicitous guidance, teaching sessions and consistent efforts- we are able to bring these children at a level so as to make them eligible for their age appropriate grade admission at various top ranking private schools under the purview of government schemes.

Our aim is to enroll our students into established private schools under government schemes. Our intention is to expose underprivileged children to the same level of opportunities as any other child their age, irrespective of their background and the obstacles faced by them. We are committed to high standards of accountability and transparency as we embark on this mission.

Covid- 19 Assistance

Our NGO has been on the ground in these unfortunate times and has done extensive work in providing food and hygiene supplies, creating awareness and has continued to impart education to its underprivileged students. Our target groups are daily wage workers and house helps who have unreliable sources of income and with Covid-19, they have no means to fend for themselves.

Distributing essential food kits and hygiene kits

We provide raw essential items (oil, flour, rice, pulses, salt, turmeric, chilli powder) and hygiene kits (Sanitary napkins, Dettol soap, Rin soap, mask, sanitizer) to needy families in Gurgaon every 15 days. This rotation ensures that the 200+ families that we are serving have essential items. We ensured all families present in our student’s localities are helped.

Creating awareness of Covid-19

We follow social distancing norms during our distribution drives, each family is represented by 1 member who is masked, and everyone stands in a line with 6 feet distance between each other. We teach people how to make cloth masks at home, maintain general cleanliness in their communities, how to wash any outside item before using and urged them to stay at home.

Educating our students

Since we cannot take classes for our underprivileged students anymore, we are making assignments and give to them when we go to distribute food. Our NGO had started with the vision of providing education to the underprivileged and this time of need, we stepped into serving our society in more ways and helping our community. We have also been helping our students who are studying in DPS Shiksha Kendra in completing their work assignments. In last 40 days, regular supplies of notebooks and stationary has been provided to them.

Online digital learning

We have come up with a systematic and structured setup of online classes. Our teachers follow fixed schedule for these classes and use innovative methods to make online education interesting for the students in this “new normal”. A blended course has been designed for Sarvprayag students such that the in-class time is substituted by equally meaningful online activities. This means that the in-class and online portions of a course are complementary and have been thoughtfully combined to meet the needs of the learner and the goals of the course. The children have adapted well into this method and work hard in these trying times. Initially, as with any other project, there were many hurdles and difficulties but very soon we’ve overcome them and have a well flowing system in place which ensures that the future of our students is not compromised in this year of unprecedented times. There is extra effort being put in from our volunteers in terms of making schedules, assignments, innovative models, charts, videos and also coordinating amongst each other- but it’s all worth it at the end of the day as we see constant and consistent improvement in the student’s learning graphs.

We use WhatsApp or Zoom as the platform for our online classes. In many households the parents didn’t own basic smartphones which could assist in making video calls, we stepped in this situation and started drives and donation campaigns. Now each household has one phone through which the students can study and interact with us.

We have also been helping our students who are studying in DPS Shiksha Kendra in completing their work assignments and assisting them in continuing their learning. In last 40 days, regular supplies of notebooks and stationary has also been provided to them.
